Just a little bit different is this evergreen sedge which holds whorls of cream and lime green variegated leaves along upright purplish stems. Flowers rather like mini bulrushes appear in the centre of the whorls. Makes a terrific pot plant, but equally at home in the border. Likes some shelter and a bit of shade. Moist but not wet soil. 2 feet. 2 litre pot.

We love Carex Sparkler because it's a true original. Tends to sell very well whenever we have it available, probably for the same reason.
We cut back the previous year's stems in spring when new ones are coming through.
Another carex from Japan. Sometimes also known as Whirling Sparkler, which seems rather apt. We also rather like Tony Avent's (of the US nursery Plant Delights) description of Carex Sparkler as 'a grove of miniature variegated palm trees.' We can see how he came up with that.
Carex Phyllocephala Sparkler is a hardy evergreen grass with green and cream variegated leaves on purple stems suitable for light shade and moist soil.
