See it and fall in love. Yes, it’s that good. Angelica Ebony forms a sturdy plant with glossy, finely-cut, virtually black foliage that has real presence. Add to that the sprays of fluffy pink flowers that emerge from purple buds in summer and ... enough said. Amazing. Best in some shade. Any reasonable soil. 3 ft. 2 litre pot ready soon. Whenever we grow this wonderful plant it just sells like the proverbial hotcakes. Might be shortlived (it is biennial to perennial) but so well worth it and, at our price, it won't break the bank to replace it.
Ebony is a sport of Angelica Sylvestris, which, as you can tell from the name, is originally a woodland dweller. That would confirm why we find it prefers a bit of shade during the day, though our RHS encyclopaedia suggests full sun. We beg to differ.
Angelica Ebony was introduced at the Chelsea Flower Show over a decade ago now and caused a bit of storm at the time; it still makes regular appearances in show gardens at the RHS showpiece.
