SORRY, CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK. Rarer, smaller and hardier than Melianthus Major, this version of the honey bush has serrated leaves that smell of hazelnuts or peanut butter, as you prefer, and (given a decent warm summer) maroon flowers with chocolate bracts followed by curious inflated seed pods. Very distinctive. Sunny sheltered spot. Any reasonable soil. 3 to 5 ft. 2 litre pot.

Evergreen but if a hard winter cuts it back, it will regrow from the base. Just chop off the dead stuff. Grows fast and will reconstitute itself in a season.
This species is probably a better fit for most gardens than its bigger cousin, Meliathus Major.
Melianthus Villosus is a fairly hardy evergreen shrub with serrated grey green leaves and maroon flowers in summer suitable for full sun.
