With ruffled glossy foliage as black as a raven's wing at midnight (well, almost), Black Taffeta is a little cracker and beats Obsidian to the title of the best dark-leaved heuchera, we think. It will form a compact rounded mound of crinkled evergreen blackness which is a nice background for the white flowers on delicate stems. Sun or semi-shade. Any reasonable soil. 10 in. 1 litre pot.

Just when you think they can't produce another new and distinctive heuchera, this one comes along. It's brilliant and is particularly popular when we take some along to a show, when it tends to, as they say, walk away.

Black Taffeta is one of those plants will change colour depending on the amount of direct sunlight it receives in the course of the day. Essentially, the more sun it gets, the more purply-red will be the predominant shade of the foliage, so for a blacker hue, plant it somewhere with a degree of shade.

The heuchera has to be the ideal plant for the low maintenance gardener: there is precious little to do in the way of plant care for your Black Taffeta other than to remove old flowering stems and, in the early spring, tear off the older winter-damaged leaves around the outside of the clump of foliage to allow the bnew growth from the centre to come through.

Heuchera Black Taffeta is a hardy evergreen perennial plant with ruffled purple near black leaves and white flowers in summer suitable for sun or semi-shade.
