HEUCHERA BLONDIE

HEUCHERA BLONDIE

5.00

Now the problem with quite a few of the more recent varieties of heuchera is that the flowers aren't up to much. Not so with Blondie, one of the Little Cutie series, which produces compact spikes of creamy yellow flowers almost constantly from spring to autumn above an evergreen mound of soft caramel coloured leaves. Great for front of border planting and year round interest. Sun or semi-shade. Any reasonable soil. 9 in. 1 litre pot.

Heucheras are native to North America and were named after the 18th century German physician, Johann Heinrich von Heucher (1677-1746). They occupy a variety of habitats, from coastal plain to rocky inland canyons, so are adaptable when it comes to garden planting, though many of the paler leaved varieties will prefer some relief from the midday sun.

In the last decade or two there has been a veritable explosion in the number of new varieties of heuchera introduced to the market, with Dan Heims of Terra Nova Nurseries in Oregon, USA and Thierry Delabroye from France being two of the biggest players. Things have come a long way from when Palace Purple was considered a novelty!

Heuchera Little Cutie Blondie is a hardy evergreen perennial with caramel coloured leaves and spikes of yellow flowers suitable for sun or semi-shade.
