Introduced at Chelsea in 2012, Golden Drop is a seductively charming  dwarf agapanthus which forms a mound of evergreen variegated foliage with each strappy leaf sporting golden yellow edges. In summer short but sturdy stems support rounded umbels of sky blue flowers. An engaging little character suitable for front of border or for gracing the patio in a nice pot. Full sun. Any reasonable soil. 15 in. 2 litre or 9cm pot.

Evergreen agapanthus tend to be rather less hardy than their herbaceous (deciduous) cousins, but this little baby is tough enough to take winter temperatures down to -10C. If you are concerned for its welfare, offer a bit of protection by fleece or mulch.

Plant care: see above if you live in a cold area. Otherwise, let it get on with things in its own way. Nothing to do except remove old flowering stems and talk to it nicely from time to time.
