5.50

AVAILABLE SUMMER 2019. The parent species, Amsonia Tabernaemontana, is a native of the United States all too rarely seen over here: Blue Ice is an eye-catching plant with erect stems clothed in dark green willowy leaves and, in early summer, clouds of starry blue flowers. It puts on a second star turn in the autumn when the foliage colours golden yellow. Sun or semi-shade. Any reasonable soil. 18 in. 2 litre pot.

Blue Ice may take time to establish, but well worth it when it does! Cut back old stems in winter.

Amsonias are native to woodland and grassland habitats and are tolerant of a variety of planting situations and soils. The variety Blue Ice was raised by White Flower Farm nurseries in Connecticut and is probably a sport of Amsonia Tabernaemontana, as a chance seedling was found growing with a batch of that species. The video below describes the species but gives you an idea of what to expect:

Amsonia Blue Ice is a hardy perennial with dark green willowy leaves and starry blue flowers in early summer suitable for sun or semi-shade.
