ASTRANTIA GILL RICHARDSON

ASTRANTIA GILL RICHARDSON

5.50

Not another red astrantia, you might think. Well, hold on a minute. Gill Richardson is not just another of the aforementioned, it is in fact one of the best of the newer introductions, as it combines gorgeous cherry red flowers in clusters over a long period with much more robust and vigorous foliage growth than many of its contemporaries can muster. Dead head and you will be rewarded with renewed blooming right through the season. Sun or semi-shade. Most soils, not too dry. 24 in. 2 litre pot.

Introduced at Chelsea in 2004, this variety of Astrantia Major is named in honour of the Lincolnshire pantswoman Gill Richardson. You can read more about Gill and astrantias here.

Astrantia Major is native to the woods and meadows of central and eastern Europe, so you might realistically expect it to be a good choice for woodland plantings or alongside a stream.

Astrantia Major Gill Richardson is a compact hardy perennial with lobed leaves and dark red flowers from early to mid summer suitable for sun or semi-shade.
