COLOCASIA ESCULENTA BLACK CORAL

COLOCASIA ESCULENTA BLACK CORAL

from 5.00

AVAILABLE EARLY SUMMER 2019. Colocasia Black Coral is a real showstopper of a plant, grown for its stunning foliage: the enormous leaves are heart-shaped and virtually black in colour. Not just that, but they are oil-slick glossy and marked with electic blue veining. You will have seen nothing quite like it! Much better than Black Magic. Overwinter frost free. Sun or shade, moist soil. To 4 feet.

Colocasia Black Coral is terrific as a showpiece in a nice big pot on the patio, and then you can move it inside for the colder months. Or lift the tuber & store it dry over winter.

Colocasia Esculenta is of course the sweet potato, widely grown as a food crop in the tropics, and Black Coral and other named varieties are essentially just fancy cultivars of the species.

Our favoured method is to grow in a big pot, put in a cold greenhouse over winter and do not water until new growth shows in the spring. Seems to work for us.

This short video shines the spotlight, so to speak, on Colocasia Black Coral and offers some times on its cultivation:

Colocasia Esculenta Black Coral is a half-hardy tuberous perennial with enormous pointed glossy black leaves with electric blue veins suitable for sun or shade.
