Very new (introduced in 2018), Echinacea Fountain Light Purple may have a pretty unimaginative name but it does what it says on the tin, entertaining you from June to September with a succession of open flattish flowers in said colour, ie pinkish purple. Which is nice. Sun or semi-shade. Well drained soil. 18 in. 1 litre pot.

Fountain Light Purple is, as you might have guessed, a member of the Fountain series of echinaceas from prolific Dutch plant breeders AB Cultivars. The trio of plants in the series so far were all introduced in 2018, with the key features being compact height, good branching habit and strong flowering performance. Certainly our early experience with this plant confirms these characteristics, and plants have grown quickly and bulked out well, producing lots of flowers that seem to last well. All in all, much to recommend other than that uninspired name.

Grow in well drained soil in a position that receives a reasonable amount of sunshine during the day, remembering not to cover the crown when planting. Deadheading during the flowering period will prolong blooming, so you should get months of colour. As long as you like light purple, that is. We think it an attractive shade, and quite an unusual one for an echinacea.

Echinacea Fountain Light Purple is a hardy perennial plant with flat daisy like pinkish purple flowers in summer and autumn suitable for sun or semi-shade.
