If you’re pushed for space, the decidedly petite Echinacea Yellow Pearl could be right for you, forming a bushy little plant covered in the summer months with a crowded multitude of buttery yellow open flat-petalled flowers.  Small but perfectly formed.  Sun or semi-shade. Well drained soil. 12 to 18 in. 2 litre or 1 litre pot.

Yellow Pearl is another echinacea in the AB Cultivars portfolio and is one of the Pearl series, which seems to be a limited range for the moment, comprising just this yellow flowered specimen and one other, the appropriately named Pink Pearl. They are both compact and well branched in style and were introduced in 2018, so are pretty new on the scene. We expect there will be more Pearls to follow in the next few years.

The flowers of Echinacea Yellow Pearl are flattish for a coneflower, which we do quite like in principle, and a nice feature is the fact that the central discs start out life a fetching shade of green then, as they develop into more of a cone shape, become burnt orange in colour. Nice. It is these central cones that house the nectar which makes echinaceas so attractive to bees and their flying friends, including butterflies.

If you want to see what thousands of echinaceas in the field looks like, this video made by AB Cultivars will show you.

Echinacea Yellow Pearl is a hardy perennial with butter yellow flowers with orange central cones from summer into autumn suitable for sun or semi-shade.
