FILIPENDULA RED UMBRELLAS

FILIPENDULA RED UMBRELLAS

5.50

We like a plant with a good name, and Red Umbrellas is, we think, a good name for this new compact variety of meadowsweet, as Filipendula is affectionately known. The fingered, maple-like leaves are strongly veined in deep red - so far, so nice - and when the clouds of fluffy candyfloss-pink flowers float above them in midsummer, the effect is simply stunning. Sun or semi-shade. Any reasonable soil. 24 in. 2 litre pot.

Meadowsweet for the normal-sized garden is what we have here. But not just any old meadowsweet. This one is a class act and oh so desirable.

The origins of Filipendula Red Umbrellas seem to be rather obscure, although it is at least in part F. Multijuga, but whether it is a hybridised cross or a descendant of a plant brought back from a plant hunting expedition in the latter part of the 20th century is unclear. Whatever the truth, it's a star plant in our book.

Filipendula Red Umbrellas is a hardy perennial plant with fingered red veined leaves and pink fluffy flowers in summer suitable for sun or semi-shade.
