What to say about the new and slightly coyly named Geum Pretticoats Peach? Yes, it’s pretty and it’s certainly peachy, and it flowers much longer than most geums, often from April to September without much of a break, with a mix of frilly petals and shades of peach and pink that can’t fail to win your heart. Sun or semi-shade. Any reasonable soil. 12 in. 1 litre pot.

Pretticoats Peach is a geum introduced in 2018 by Terra Nova Nurseries as the first in the Pretticoats series: we assume there will be more to follow, so watch this space, as they say. As ever, the emphasis in the breeding has been to promote a good compact form and longer flowering period - it looks like they have been successful in this. What we particularly notice is the foliage: the leaves are large and a deliciously fresh green in colour, forming a nice rounded mound for the flowers to arise from.

Geums seem to be getting better and better, with the flowering being extended from early summer right through the season. That’s nice. So too is the development of flower form, with lots of doubles and frills going on, plus combinations of pinks and creams and peaches in the colour palette. It’s all good, as far as we are concerned. We love them.

Easy on the care front. The odd bit of deadheading and removal of old damaged leaves in spring as the new ones come through from the centre. That’s your lot. Can’t complain about that,. given the pleasure this little geum brings.

Geum Pretticoats Peach is a hardy evergreen perennial with serrated leaves and frilled peach and pink semi-double flowers in summer suitable for sun or semi-shade.
