This is the classic Mimosa tree, known for its fragrant fluffy bright yellow flowers in the spring, but looking very lovely at any time of year with its feathery ferny foliage which is evergreen. Acacia Dealbata grows quickly and will soon form a spectacular small tree with a delicately arching habit. Sheltered sunny spot. Neutral to acid soil. 6 feet plus. 2 litre pot.
Acacias are fast growing so you won't have to wait long before you have an elegant small tree, and they aren't too slow to flower either, usually at two or three years old.
The common name is Silver Wattle due to the silvery sheen on the leaflets that make up the delicate fingered foliage. Just one of over a thousand species of acacia, the best known of which are native to Australasia.
If you prefer something more shrub-like, Acacia Dealbata lends itself fairly well to being pruned back: it will create new branches at the cut-off point.
