DEUTZIA STRAWBERRY FIELDS

DEUTZIA STRAWBERRY FIELDS

5.50

This variety of Deutzia is relatively new to cultivation and lives up to the name Strawberry Fields when, in May and June, heavy clusters of deep red buds open up to white flowers which are strongly flushed with strawberry pink. It can get to 5 feet but is easily kept to 3 feet by pruning after flowering. Sun or semi-shade. Fertile soil, not too dry. 2 litre pot.

Lovely name - presumably given it by a Beatles fan. If you want to be seen as very refined, try using its alternative moniker 'Magicien'.

Plant care is not difficult: prune back stems as required after flowering. A good rule of thumb is cut back a third of the stems pretty hard each year, while pruning the rest more lightly, in order to maintain a nice densy bushy shape.

Here is a short video showing off a nice specimen of Deutzia Strawberry Fields in full bloom:

Deutzia Strawberry Fields is a hardy deciduous shrub with white flowers flushed with strawberry pink in summer suitable for sun or semi-shade.
